About this site
trevelin.info is the continuation of trevelin.life: an independent, informative site about Trevelin, its rural settlements and the surrounding region, made by people who moved here and wanted to share the journey.
The nonprofit behind the site
trevelin.info is the website and primary domain of Trevelin, a nonprofit organization registered in Minnesota, United States, and recognized by the IRS as a 501(c)(3) public charity (EIN 33-1995803). The trevelin.info domain is registered in the name of its founder and administered by the organization, which uses it for everything it does: this site, the monthly newsletter, its institutional email and its social media accounts. The nonprofit carries the same name as the town because promoting the town is its sole purpose.
Our mission
To make Trevelin, the town founded by Welsh settlers at the foot of the Andes in Chubut, known in Wales and around the world, by honestly telling what life is like here, so that more people come to visit and some consider making it their home.
In the exemption application filed with the IRS, the organization’s purpose was declared as follows:
“Moving to rural towns in Argentina is difficult. Our organization helps with many types of assistance, giving families a hand at little to no cost. We want others to be able to live safely in this beautiful town in Argentina.”
Why Wales
Trevelin was born in 1885 as part of the Colonia 16 de Octubre, founded by descendants of the Welsh settlers who had reached Chubut twenty years earlier. The town’s name is Welsh (“tre” town, “felin” mill), its chapels and its Eisteddfod are still alive, and Welsh is still spoken and taught here. Yet in Wales many people barely know this “Welsh Patagonia” exists. That is why we publish in Welsh as well as in Spanish and English, and why reaching people in Wales is a central part of our work: so they know what life in Trevelin and the region is like today, come to visit, and, if tempted, know there is room for them here.
What we do
- We publish local news from Trevelin, its settlements and Esquel, summarized in three languages.
- We maintain visitor guides: things to do, hiking trails, places to see, how to get here.
- We tell first-hand what moving here and living here is like: schools, healthcare, internet, remote work.
- We share what the community posts on social media about the town.
- We answer, free of charge, anyone who writes to us thinking about visiting or moving.

About the domain: trevelin.info is the organization’s official website and domain, and the only one it operates: this site, the monthly newsletter, the institutional email and the social media accounts.
The application filed with the IRS in January 2025 listed the previous domain, trevelin.life. That domain lapsed and in May 2026 was picked up by a domain parking service unrelated to the organization, which now uses it for advertising. The organization does not control trevelin.life and has no connection to any content published there. All content from the former site was migrated to trevelin.info.
We believe Trevelin grows when more people get to know it. To reach the organization, write to us through the contact page or at the postal address above.
