Nant Fach Mill
On Route 259 towards the border, this flour mill is a replica built stone by stone by a descendant of the Welsh settlers, and it now works as a museum of the valley’s milling history. It’s one of the best-known images of the region.
Molino Andes Regional Museum
Right in town, the old early-twentieth-century flour mill houses the regional museum: original machinery and artefacts from the Welsh settlers and the valley’s Indigenous peoples. It’s the best introduction to Trevelin’s history.
Malacara’s Grave
A one-of-a-kind site: the grave of the horse that saved John Daniel Evans’s life in 1884 with a legendary leap across a ravine during the Valley of the Martyrs episode. The grounds, cared for by Evans’s descendants, are visited with storytelling about the history of the Welsh colonisation.
Bethel Chapel
Trevelin’s Welsh chapel, a witness to the settlers’ faith and community life. Services and choral gatherings in Welsh are still held around the valley’s chapels.
Plaza Coronel Fontana and the Dragon
The town’s central square, home to the celebrated Welsh dragon by local craftsman Tomás Schinelli — one of several sculptures that have made Trevelin the “Land of Dragons”. The tourist office is right across from the square.
The Giant Bench and the valley viewpoints
A giant-scale bench set up as a panoramic point invites you to pose with the 16 de Octubre valley behind you. The valley’s rural roads offer views of the cordillera at every bend.
The tulip farm
In October and November, rows of tulips in bloom with the Andes as a backdrop are Trevelin’s most famous image. Entry is ticketed, with bulbs and local products on sale. Out of season, the same valley offers peony fields in December.
Futaleufú Dam and La Balsa
The Amutui Quimey reservoir (“lost beauty” in Mapuzungun) and the Futaleufú dam, on the edge of Los Alerces National Park, form a striking landscape of water and mountains. Through the nearby border crossing you can reach Futaleufú (Chile), a town with which Trevelin shares a historic bond of friendship.
The rural settlements
Trevelin is more than the town itself: Lago Rosario, Sierra Colorada, Aldea Escolar and Los Cipreses are rural settlements with their own communities, schools and stories, and they are part of what makes the municipality what it is. Each one deserves an unhurried visit.
